Special Forces-From Least Trusted to Most Redeemed
Special Forces-From Least Trusted to Most Redeemed
Podcast Summary – Special Forces S4 E5: “Trust”
Day 5 begins with 13 recruits left, and the theme is all about trust and integrity. The Directing Staff (DS) warn that not everyone will make it — they need to cut 3 or 4 people — and immediately test the group’s loyalty by offering an early voluntary withdrawal. Nick Young and Ravi Patel take the out, leaving 11 recruits.
The DS then dive into the trust exercise, asking: “Who would you not take on a mission?” The recruits call each other out, and supermodel Chanel Iman ends up being voted the least trusted of the group. The judgment hits her hard — she breaks down, feeling rejected and misunderstood — but teammates Gia and Brianna defend her, saying she’s been nothing but supportive.
The Trust Missions
Teams are divided for physical and leadership challenges. Chanel struggles as team leader, hesitant to give orders and unsure of herself. She admits she’s used to staying quiet and “keeping her head down.” Team Bravo dominates while Team Alpha falls apart — again testing who steps up and who falters under pressure.
Later, the DS call Chanel in for a one-on-one. She opens up about her modeling past — starting at 12, facing rejection, and living through the pressures of drugs, sex, and image obsession in the industry. The DS remind her she needs to own her power and stop fading into the background.
The “Snack Trap” – Failed Trust Test
The DS plant a box of snacks marked “DS Dorm” to test the recruits’ honesty. Randall takes the bait, thinking it’s a morale boost, while Chanel warns, “Don’t trust it — don’t touch it.” When he realizes it was a trap, Randall confesses to the team, taking full responsibility.
The Backward Dive
Next, partners must fall backward into water at the same time — a literal trust fall. Most fail.
- Jessie James Decker & Christie – Fail
- Randall & Andrew – Fail
- Gia & Kody – Fail
- Chanel & Mark – Fail
- Shawn & Eric Decker – Pass
- Brianna & Chanel – Pass (Chanel redeems herself leading with confidence)
Randall’s Emotional Breakthrough
The DS pull Randall aside after noticing he seems checked out. He confides he misses his family, still haunted by their house fire that nearly cost them their lives. He realizes he joined for selfish reasons — chasing the thrill — but learns that by giving everything to this experience, he can return home a stronger father and partner.
Trust Comes Full Circle
The DS reveal the snack trap and remind the team that they all failed the trust test. Randall owns up again, and Gia confirms Chanel was the one who warned them not to touch it. Chanel, once the least trusted, is now vindicated — she’s told to stay dry while picking who she trusts least. She chooses Brianna, confronting her directly for doubting her earlier.
Brianna, Randall, and Gia end up in the punishment cage, soaked with dirty water as the others look on. It’s a humbling end to a brutal episode — a reminder that trust on this course is earned the hard way.

Wendy (00:01.029)
Hi, welcome to Wee Wime and Ever, I'm Wendy.
Lori (00:04.58)
And I'm Lori.
Wendy (00:07.022)
We are talking about Special Forces Season 4 Episode Number 5 and this one is called Trust. This is Day 5, 0640, which is 640 a.m. and there's 13 recruits left.
So the DS's are talking and they're halfway through and they say that they need to get rid of three or four people. And so the DS's go out, they call everyone to come out and...
They're letting them know that this is, you know, a lot of mental and physical is going to continue to happen. And they give them an out. They offer them, if anyone wants to quit, you know, now's the time to quit. And Nick Young immediately quits. And now prior to this, he was in the tent talking to Ravi and the two of them were kind of like, Nick was complaining about his knee was bothering him and Ravi wasn't, you know,
Lori (00:51.835)
Mm-hmm.
Wendy (01:07.426)
I don't know what he was complaining about. Do you remember what Ravi was complaining about?
Lori (01:10.767)
I don't remember, but one thing I wrote down, I didn't write down who said it because with this show, I have a very difficult time between the numbers and the people's names. So I wish they would just put both of them on the screen. I don't care, but just so you can figure it out. Somebody in the tent said, and I believe it was the NFL player that has the light eyes. He's African-American. I think he said,
Wendy (01:21.006)
I
Lori (01:40.719)
I'm not trying to leave here with emotional distress. I thought that was really telling. you know, after Nick left, thought to myself, well, you know.
Wendy (01:41.038)
Randall Cobb.
Wendy (01:46.637)
Okay.
Lori (01:55.447)
I would almost consider my decision to leave as a strength because knowing your own boundaries is a good thing. know, maybe some people would say, Brittany quit the first day. You know what? She knew. She was like, this, this, this is not for me. You know, the guy, when he went through the tunnels, he was like, I'm just not up for it. I can't do it. So.
Wendy (02:21.336)
Johnny Manziel, yeah.
Lori (02:22.499)
Yeah, you know, I'm not anybody's hero except for my own. I think, you know, with Johnny Manziel, when you had the leadership challenge on top of it, that puts a whole nother thing and it kind of explodes. But I don't know. Everybody's not cut out to be a Special Forces person or the whole world would be Special Forces people. So I'm just saying if I was to leave,
I would know that I would be leaving when I was at my end. So, I don't know. I kind of look at it as a strength for Nick to be like, it's just, if you can't do it, can't do it. That's okay.
Wendy (03:06.06)
Yeah, I mean, that's a very valid point. And I'm glad you pointed that out because I didn't look at it that way. In my mind, I thought to myself, he's a quitter. And honestly, even Johnny Menzel, since you brought him up, when he quit in the tunnel, and I was telling Andrew about him, and he's like, that's what he does. He's a quitter. And that's what he said. That's what he said.
Lori (03:17.252)
Right. Right.
Lori (03:24.891)
Mm-hmm.
Wendy (03:34.114)
basically when the DS has talked to him is that he gives up on himself. And I thought that that's why he went there is not to give up on himself. And then he did it again. So I understand what you're saying though. mean, it's a very valid point. Listen.
Lori (03:43.407)
Right.
Lori (03:47.621)
Yeah, I'm just looking at them differently, you know? Maybe the real fuckeroo is the people that are leaving are the winners and the people who are staying are fucking dum-dums. Because nobody's going to be a special forces dude when you get down. You know what I'm just trying to, I was just looking at it a little differently.
Wendy (03:51.779)
Yeah.
Wendy (04:01.422)
you
Yeah. No, I'm glad that you gave us a different perspective. So like I said, Nick Young left and then Robbie left. listen, when Robbie left, kind of, after he told the DS's about his family and you know, I thought of him a little bit differently. I feel like, and again, this is just my thoughts that he left not so much for himself, but for his family, because he feels like that's where he needs to be. You know, because he left them, you know, kind of high and dry.
Lori (04:20.7)
Mm-hmm.
Lori (04:32.773)
Right. Right.
Wendy (04:36.226)
But he didn't, but that's how he felt. So now it's 0850, which is 850 a.m., so it's roughly two hours later, and there's 11 recruits remaining. So they've accomplished something. They talk about that special forces, you rely on trust and integrity, and he asks, who would you not rely on on a mission, to take on a mission with? And he calls up Brianna.
Lori (04:51.27)
Mm-hmm.
Wendy (05:05.496)
first and asks her and she says Chanel number eight. And then he asks Mark Estes number three and he also says Chanel number eight. Chanel is the supermodel and she says like being in selection there's been so many times she's been rejected as you know being a supermodel is not an easy gig right.
Lori (05:10.832)
Mm-hmm.
Lori (05:29.593)
No, especially she's African American and when she first started out, were, it was not that proliferate of a people to select for modeling.
Wendy (05:39.234)
Right, right. So then he calls Chanel up and she chooses number three, which is Mark Estes. Then Sean, she calls number eight Chanel. Then Kristi Rampone, she selects Gia number 18. Randall also selects Gia number 18. And Andrew, Sean's husband also selects Chanel number eight.
Lori (06:09.019)
Mm-hmm.
Wendy (06:09.536)
So she got chosen the most to be the least trusted by the recruits. And I'll tell you, in the car ride, Gia says, like, Chanel may not be physically strong, but she was there for me when I was having a panic attack. Like, she got me through it. And Brianna said she helped me get through also. But Brianna was the first one to name her. And we find out later,
Lori (06:28.679)
Yeah.
Lori (06:35.399)
Yeah. And I was thinking to myself, I don't know if that's actually valid, the least trust that you could trust. mean, that's kind of harsh. I the weakest link isn't always because of trust. mean, it could be a physical thing.
So I don't know, just thought it was kind of the wording, I guess I thought was kind of kind of harsh.
Wendy (07:08.172)
No, mean, listen, and I've really felt for her because you could see she was also, they left for the next challenge and she was crying. And Eric was sitting next to her, Eric Decker, and he said, just let it out, get through this. And she really proves herself in the end is all I'm gonna say. I mean, we'll get there. She's a rock star. I'm gonna just say that. I think that Chanel is a rock star.
Lori (07:17.381)
Mm-hmm.
Lori (07:29.334)
yeah. Yes. Yes.
Lori (07:35.975)
Mm-hmm.
Wendy (07:36.18)
And I will say it again about Gia. I am so proud to watch her. feel she is such, she's got such integrity. She has got such grit. Really, just, I'm very, very impressed by her. I really am, I really am. For such a young girl, and she's not a girl, she's a lady, but I still see her as, because I've seen her, I've watched her on TV.
Lori (07:42.055)
so impressed. So impressed.
Lori (07:47.854)
Mm-hmm.
Lori (07:51.611)
Yes, very impressed, yes.
Lori (07:56.518)
Mm-hmm.
Wendy (08:04.588)
since she was a little girl. So that's kind of how I still see her, but I'm so proud of her and to see where she's at in this journey for her.
Lori (08:06.811)
Right.
Lori (08:13.341)
yeah, most definitely.
Wendy (08:16.588)
So the next thing they're doing is they have to go through a village, they have to grab all their equipment and they have to get out. So he puts them into teams. It's team Alpha and team Bravo and they're gonna go head to head against each other. Team Alpha is Mark, Jesse James Decker and Chanel Iman and he makes Chanel Iman the leader.
Lori (08:38.129)
Mm-hmm.
Wendy (08:39.498)
And Team Bravo is Sean, Christie, and Andrew East. So he's got a husband and wife team, but he makes Andrew the leader. honestly, besides the fact that there's two women on that team, they're both physically strong women. One's a professional soccer player, the other one's a professional gymnast. Andrew is an ex-NFL player. So physically, this is a much stronger team. Team Bravo.
Lori (09:06.63)
yes, most definitely.
Wendy (09:09.268)
obviously finishes first. Chanel was really struggling physically. She was really struggling. She asked Christy to help her lift, but I feel like she was struggling so much physically that she really was focusing on that instead of the mental aspect of it, which would have been her taking the leadership role. Because I don't think that that's something she's ever had to do. She kind of said that, right? She's used to
Lori (09:37.637)
Yeah, she definitely said that. Yeah.
Wendy (09:39.702)
Yeah, she's used to just looking out for herself, keeping her head down and just working hard. And that's exactly what she was doing. you know?
Lori (09:43.591)
Mm-hmm. Yeah. Right. Yeah, like she said, she was raised to be a pretty face.
Wendy (09:51.564)
Mm-hmm.
Wendy (09:55.16)
So they wind up losing, that team winds up losing. They were 12 minutes, they finished 12 minutes after, but listen, they finished it. And you know what? They finished it, right? So then there was five left and the next five go. Team Bravo is, I was very surprised to see Cody Brown back. I thought once he was medically pulled that he was done. I didn't know that they were gonna bring him back, did you?
Lori (10:03.217)
They finished? Yeah.
Lori (10:20.583)
No. No, I did not.
Wendy (10:23.212)
And I feel like they should have explained it, to be quite honest with you.
Right? So team Bravo was Cody and Gia and Brianna and Cody was the leader of that team. Team Alpha, there was only two people left, was Randall and Mark Estes and Randall was the leader. So I also was very surprised that Cody said that he's not used to being a leader, which is very odd for someone who is a polygamist and has several wives. If he's not leading, then who the hell is?
Lori (10:52.763)
Yes. Yeah.
Lori (10:59.791)
I don't know what he was talking about. I don't know. I don't know what he was talking about.
Wendy (11:02.561)
Right?
Wendy (11:06.114)
I mean, that made no sense.
Lori (11:07.748)
No, no sense at all.
Wendy (11:10.33)
But again, in this challenge, really feel like Gia was stepping up as well. She was saying, you're not listening to your teammates. You can't just barrel through and do this at your pace. You're working as a team. And I liked...
Lori (11:14.641)
Mm-hmm.
Lori (11:24.591)
Yeah, yeah. Well, with Cody Brown, I don't know. I'm starting to look at him and I'm starting to think.
Lori (11:37.899)
Roids and like ADHD medication. That's what I'm starting to think. That's how he's hitting me. I had no nothing about it. This is a totally uneducated guess. But when I look at him, that's what I say. That's what I say.
Wendy (11:42.942)
really?
Wendy (11:56.002)
Really, that's interesting. Interesting. Randall is the leader and it's only him and Mark Estes. And he struggles with no longer playing in the NFL, because he felt like he would still be playing. And we don't know yet why he stopped playing. But obviously, they're two men. They're physically stronger. They finished first, so the other team fails. I mean, yeah. I mean, those boxes were...
Lori (12:15.238)
Mm-hmm.
Lori (12:20.298)
of course, yeah, cause it's a little unfair, you know?
Wendy (12:25.632)
Not only were they extremely heavy, which you could tell, but they were very awkward in size and length. if... Yes, yes.
Lori (12:31.729)
they were cumbersome. Yeah, cumbersome. It was totally a thing where you had to do, you had to work as a team, you know, so with those, but what was that thing that Cody said? God, it was something about being masculine.
Wendy (12:50.215)
he did? I missed that.
Lori (12:51.111)
yeah, with some kind of quote that he said something about being masculine. And you know, in some ways it's true, like as a father and a husband, your role should be to assist your family and lead them out of danger. But he just made it like all about his masculinity. I forget what the quote was, but it was just like, ew.
Wendy (13:15.702)
Yeah, I mean, I remember specifically when Cody and Gia, there was two boxes, a smaller box and a bigger box. And Gia was trying to put the smaller box on top of the bigger box and carry them both together. And Cody was like yelling at her, Gia, I can't lift this by myself. So at one point she took the smaller box and she was gonna put it on her shoulder and she was gonna help him lift the other box. And I'm like, he's not getting it.
Lori (13:28.689)
Mm-hmm.
Lori (13:43.301)
No, no, doesn't get it. Mm-hmm. yeah, no. He's just a turd. He's a turd.
Wendy (13:44.428)
Like she was trying to help. She was trying to help.
Wendy (13:50.818)
So they're, yeah, I'm not a fan. I'm not a fan, I've never been a fan. I'm actually disappointed to see that he's back, because I don't think he should have gotten to come back. Because in any other show that I've ever watched as a competition show, if you leave even for a medical reason, you're done. The competition's over.
Lori (14:10.587)
Yeah, yeah, I don't know.
Wendy (14:12.63)
Unless maybe they don't really consider this a competition because there's no prize at the end.
Lori (14:17.371)
Maybe.
Wendy (14:19.992)
So they all get back and the DS's decide to call back number eight, Chanel. And they ask her how she thinks she's been doing. And that's actually how they, that's how they started with all of them. They always ask them like, how do you think you're doing? She said it's challenging and it's hard. She admits that she's out of shape. That normally she's a quiet and reserved person. And she talks about when she started modeling when she was 12 or 13.
Lori (14:32.827)
Yes.
Wendy (14:49.25)
you know, her look was not in trend. Her look wasn't in trend. So she would be told no over and over again. And there are times that she would take a break from the industry just for her own mental stability and her own mental health. But she's used to being a mute because that's how models were, you you're just supposed to stand there and look pretty. You're not supposed to talk. And she was exposed to, yeah.
Lori (14:51.771)
Yes.
Lori (15:06.748)
Mm-hmm.
Lori (15:14.801)
Yeah, just keep quiet.
Wendy (15:17.314)
things like everything from sex to drugs and a lot of stuff at a very young age that I think she mentally is very, very strong.
Lori (15:28.155)
Yeah, because I imagine in the time when she was coming up in modeling, I bet you there's a lot of pay to play going on, you know, and I have a feeling she was, that's why she got a lot of nos too, because she was just, I mean, I'm not going to talk about it. I'm not going to squeal on anybody or the things that I know, but I'm not doing that. So therefore I'm not taking the job. I just feel like that's how she would be.
Wendy (15:38.968)
Yeah.
Wendy (15:55.721)
Right. Yeah, no, I totally agree. So the DSs tell her that she needs to be a bit more of a presence. And if she's going to be there in the end, that they ask her, you know, do you think you're going to be there in the end? And she's like, yeah, that, you know, I plan on being here in the end. They're like, okay, well, they're the ones that decide. But I like that she said she plans on staying. I like that she wants to be there.
Lori (16:18.309)
Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Now, did you notice that when she got back from her interview, she really didn't share much. She certainly didn't share like the other people shared when they got back from the interview.
Wendy (16:30.894)
Yeah, because that's who she is. She's reserved. Yeah, I did notice that. I did.
Lori (16:32.305)
Because that's who she is.
Wendy (16:38.19)
Then they call out Randall and I thought they told him to pick his recruits but I don't think they did because then they said the toilets need to be cleaned and number two and number three are to do that. I don't even know who that is, number two and number three. tried to... Yeah. And then the mess hall number eight, which was Chanel and number 18, which was Gia, they were to clean that. So as soon as...
Lori (16:52.091)
Yeah, I don't. I get so confused.
Lori (17:03.995)
Mm-hmm.
Wendy (17:06.104)
Gia and Chanel get to the mess hall. Gia sees this box with all these snacks and goodies. the first thing Chanel says, don't trust it, don't touch it. That's the first reaction she has. And then Randall walks in and Gia's like, look, look what they left. So Randall's like, he brings it out to the team and the team says to him, like, are we allowed to have this? He's like, yeah, I think it was there. I think it's a morale booster. But again,
Lori (17:11.685)
Mm-hmm.
Lori (17:15.493)
Yep. Don't touch it. Yep.
Lori (17:33.617)
Mm-hmm.
Wendy (17:35.978)
Chanel kept maintaining, don't touch it, don't eat it.
Lori (17:40.909)
Right. But, know, on the other hand, it was a perfect example for Chanel to put herself in a leadership position to protect her teammates. Right. So keep them from getting in trouble. She could have took, you know, control of the situation and said, hey, let's really look at the box. You know, I told you guys, I don't think it's a good idea. Like she could have put her foot down a little more.
Wendy (18:06.51)
think, listen, I think she said it quite a few times and they didn't listen to her and that's who she is. Like, don't think that, listen, in her gut, she knew it was wrong. She said it several times. It's not, don't do it. And she stood to her principles, not that she didn't want it, but she stood by it's wrong, I'm not doing it.
Lori (18:11.256)
Mm-hmm.
Lori (18:29.187)
Right. So now let me ask the audience and you, Wendy, a question. If you were on that show and Randall brought that box out, would you eat it? Would you have eaten it?
Wendy (18:34.156)
huh.
Wendy (18:43.79)
I don't know because if there were rules, because it seemed like there were that everyone knew that these are things that you're not supposed to eat, I would have questioned it too. I think I would have questioned it too, but I don't know.
Lori (18:43.801)
Everybody ate it except for Chanel.
Lori (18:58.695)
Yeah. I feel like I wouldn't have eaten it. I feel like I would have been at this point, I would have been like so sus of everything that I would have been like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Like unless somebody, unless a DS directly told you that you could have that. I mean, nobody saw that on the box. It was written on the box.
Wendy (19:21.642)
Right. Right. Right. It was written on the box. Exactly. You know what I think? again, I don't know. So it's very easy to play armchair quarterback, right? I think I would have asked, you know what mean? Like, I think I would have asked a question. I mean, to someone... Well, they asked...
Lori (19:26.353)
Yeah
Lori (19:35.527)
But somebody, forget who it was. Somebody did ask. Somebody did ask and said, are you sure we should be eating this? I forget who it was. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, somebody who went, right, right, right, right. Yeah, yeah.
Wendy (19:46.604)
Yeah, but they asked Randall. No, no, I would have asked someone who could have given an answer, not Randall. You know I'm saying? I would have asked a DS or I would have asked one of the other, you know, the other people of authority, not one of my teammates. I don't know. It's a good question though.
Lori (19:56.977)
Yeah.
Right. Right.
Wendy (20:08.024)
So then after that, when they're all done, Randall realizes that the box said DS dorm and he goes back into the tent and he apologizes to them. He's like, it's my bad. And Chanel said, again, I told you not to eat it. I told you not to eat it.
Lori (20:23.409)
Mm-hmm.
Wendy (20:29.888)
The next thing they're going to do is they go out to do another test and this is going to be a backwards dive.
Lori (20:38.791)
Now, nope, I told you, I told you it's all about that backwards thing. Remember I keep saying about the backwards stuff, leaning backwards over the dam, leaning backwards out of the helicopter. So when I saw this, I was like, nope, nope.
Wendy (20:44.003)
Yeah.
Yes.
Wendy (20:57.132)
Yeah, doing the backwards dive. So to pass this test, you and your partner need to fall backwards at the exact same time. Fall backwards. So you need to put your hands crossed over your body and fall backwards into water off like this platform. They didn't tell us how high that platform was, but it looked very high. I have no idea how high it was.
Lori (21:10.012)
backwards.
Lori (21:17.872)
Mm-hmm.
Lori (21:24.599)
I would say if I had to guess, I'd say it was like 10, 12 feet. You know what? It appeared to be higher, but when you really looked, I don't think it was that high. It appeared a lot higher than it was. I'm not saying I could have done it, because Ari said, noob. But there was just...
Wendy (21:29.877)
God, I think it was higher than that.
Wendy (21:38.143)
That could be, because I feel like if it was, they would have told us if it was.
Lori (21:50.747)
the angles, like if there was a certain shot of it where you could see the platform and the water and then you could kind of measure the distance. So I'm thinking it was like maybe at the most 15 feet. It did look, it did look a lot. It looked really, yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Wendy (22:02.166)
Okay, well that's not, it looked like a hundred feet to me. Like I'm thinking like this, like this looks crazy. So the first up is Jesse James Decker and Christie and Jesse's decides that he's gonna lead. And Christie says that her biggest fear is the water and she's not a strong swimmer and she almost drowned as a child. So, you know.
Lori (22:28.531)
Mm-hmm.
Lori (22:32.165)
It's so weird they put them together, they both have three names.
Wendy (22:36.416)
Yeah, that's true. That's true. So they failed. Jessie, when she fell backwards, because they didn't go back at the same time, she hit her nose and she thinks that it was bleeding. They think maybe she broke it.
Lori (22:37.208)
I'm sorry.
Lori (22:50.609)
Mm-hmm.
Wendy (22:52.291)
next is.
Oh, then they give us the time. Then they give us the time. So I just wanted to give you this time. the next time they give us, it's after those two went, it's 1540 hours, which means it's 340 in the afternoon. So we started the day out at six o'clock and now it's 340, right? It's 340 in the afternoon. I like to try and keep track of like how long this day actually is, you know? Okay, so then the next group to go is Randall.
Lori (23:13.297)
Six o'clock, right, yeah.
Lori (23:21.019)
That is, yeah.
Wendy (23:27.18)
Number and number 11, Andrew. Andrew's the lead. And Randall hesitated, so they failed. They didn't go at the same time. Next is Gia and Cody, and Gia's the lead, and they failed. Again, I think Gia did a great job leading. I did.
Lori (23:37.191)
They fail, yep.
Lori (23:48.631)
I put down no shit. Gia pulled the gymnastics move. I loved it. Gia pulled the gymnastics move. And you know what? She must be the only intelligent one there because after you watch that go on, you have to be there to say to yourself, okay, all right, if I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna fall backwards, but fuck if I'm gonna land on my face. She's the only one who figured out how to not do like the flat face slam.
Wendy (23:55.788)
Yeah.
Lori (24:17.925)
by doing a flip. So good for you, Gia.
Wendy (24:20.522)
Mm-hmm. Yeah. She was the first to figure it out because Sean did too. She's a gymnast. The next was Chanel and Mark and Chanel was the lead and they failed. And then Sean and Eric Decker, Sean was the lead and they passed.
Lori (24:26.492)
Mm-hmm.
Lori (24:32.945)
Mm-hmm.
Wendy (24:43.426)
Then number two, Breanna was left, but there wasn't a partner, so they picked Chanel to go again with her and made Chanel the lead again, giving her another chance, and they passed. And I thought it was...
Lori (24:55.963)
And you know, it was very nice that Gia offered to go with her. thought that was, I was like, damn Gia, you're just smacking it all down today. Right?
Wendy (25:07.02)
Yeah, she really stepped up. And I also thought it was very interesting after they did it together, Brianna and Chanel and they passed. On the ride back, Brianna said, Chanel won't even look at me. So she was still upset. She was still upset with her for calling her out. She was still upset with her. And listen, not that I blame her, I really don't.
Lori (25:25.457)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Lori (25:32.335)
Well, you're in that situation, you gotta pick somebody.
Wendy (25:36.962)
Yeah.
Lori (25:37.671)
You ought to pick somebody.
Wendy (25:39.246)
Yeah, but you know, this is what I think. don't like when females pick another female.
Do you know what I'm saying? I wish they would have just picked a male. Just pick Cody. Pick Cody. Freaking pick Cody. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, okay, you have to pick somebody, but I would rather that women stick together. I don't know. It's just me.
Lori (25:50.331)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Lori (25:55.921)
Just picked him out. Just right. Right. Yeah. Right. Dick. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Lori (26:07.501)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. No, no, no. I'm ready.
Wendy (26:12.108)
So then they get back from this challenges and the DS's decide to bring Randall back to ask him some questions. And they start him out with the same question they ask all of them, how he thinks he's doing. They tell him that he seems a little vacant. And he immediately says that he misses his wife and his kids. And they ask him, why did you come? And he says he came for the thrill, which I was very, I mean, I think he's, I haven't heard anyone say that before. I think he really, I've never heard any of them say that, like that they came for the thrill.
Lori (26:34.385)
Mm-hmm.
Lori (26:42.629)
Well, to me it was very telling because he said he just can't get away from that feeling of walking off the field victorious. So I feel like that's what he's looking for. he wants, yeah, and he wants a victory. And I think because as we find out that his family was in a house fire, I've...
Wendy (26:42.786)
He misses.
Wendy (26:55.362)
Yeah, that's what he said.
Wendy (27:01.336)
The adrenaline.
Lori (27:11.067)
He doesn't look at that as a victory. doesn't, you because he would have been victorious if it would have never happened, even though was probably out of his hands, whatever happened. You you're victorious, you saved your family. But I think for him, he just has this thing in his head.
about having a victory.
Wendy (27:30.208)
Yeah. Yeah, no, I think that that's definitely it. And that interesting thing about that is so Andrew, I had a conversation with my son, Andrew, about this because he knows Randall Cobb. Randall Cobb played for his team, the Packers, for a very long time. And he told me that, you know, he was following Aaron Rodgers. And I told him what he said that, you know, how he misses his family because of the fire. Otherwise he would have still been playing football. And he's like,
I never knew about the fire. Like he hadn't heard about it. And Andrew follows all that. Like he knows these players and knows, you know, like knows what's going on. Like he's like, I don't, he goes, probably one or two other teams he could have played for, but like he's been playing a long time. Like he's almost like at the end, if not at the end, like he's passed his, he's definitely passed his prime, but he said he probably could have played a little bit longer. And I think it's because he felt like he had more in him.
Lori (28:05.275)
Right, right, he knows the deal.
Lori (28:19.878)
Right.
Wendy (28:28.034)
but I guess he didn't feel like he had it mentally after the fire. instead, I guess it put it in perspective, right?
Lori (28:33.809)
Yeah. Yeah.
Wendy (28:37.396)
But they tell him that, know, if, he feels like he's selfish for being there because he went there for himself instead of staying home with his family, right? They tell him.
Lori (28:46.567)
But I thought to myself, dude, it's 10 days. And it's not like, you know what I mean? It's not like you're going away from, it's 10 days.
Wendy (28:50.158)
Right, it is 10 days.
Wendy (28:57.644)
Yeah, you're right. You're right, it is 10 days.
Lori (28:58.919)
I don't know. I mean, it's good that he's a very dedicated family man. Like, you can't take that away from him. I find that to be very admirable. But I thought to myself, you know, calm down. It's 10 days.
Wendy (29:14.444)
Yeah. So the DSs tell him that he's not selfish and going there is going to make him a better version of himself. He'll be a better partner, a better father, a better person. Just give it everything you have so you don't regret it. Just give it all you got. So I hope he takes that advice. I do. I hope he takes that advice.
Lori (29:24.635)
Mm-hmm.
Lori (29:35.11)
Yeah.
Wendy (29:40.6)
Then they bring the recruits back out after they have his thing because they failed the trust test, which was the box of goodies. And they know what happened, but they say that in the warning exercise, the majority of you picked number H, Chanel, as the least trusted. And he's like, how do you explain this? And he brings out the empty box.
Lori (29:50.989)
Mm-hmm.
Lori (30:09.467)
the box yet.
Wendy (30:11.104)
and Randall immediately said, that's on me. Like no one else is responsible. Like that's me.
Lori (30:16.603)
which I thought was really good.
Wendy (30:18.542)
100%. I like that about him. takes responsibility. He said, did anyone say we shouldn't touch it? The DS said that and Gia said, yeah, number eight.
Lori (30:28.025)
Again, Gia the girl stepping on-
Wendy (30:31.2)
Yep. Yep.
So then he has everyone but Chanel get into the dunk tank. So they all had to get dunked.
Lori (30:40.679)
Now, I want to ask about this. Now, I looked up the weather, because I'm thinking to myself after I'm watching this, and then they will throw the water on them, blah, blah, blah. I'm thinking to myself, okay, so I know sometimes in the desert it can get cold at night. No. 60 at 7 a.m., otherwise between 60 and 68 degrees. So I would have been like, yeah, let's dunk. Looks good.
Wendy (30:44.046)
Mm-hmm.
Wendy (31:07.85)
in North Africa, like where they were? Okay.
Lori (31:10.437)
Yeah, I looked up the weather because I think it, was thinking, you know, maybe it's, maybe it gets really cold there at night. And that's why they were, you know, that could be a punishment. But to me, I was like, I don't know, it's looking pretty good here in the middle of desert. I'll take a dunk. I don't know. I didn't get that.
Wendy (31:24.993)
Yeah.
Wendy (31:29.516)
Well, listen, I mean, I'm glad you gave us that fact because I had no idea what the weather was.
So then after they get out of the dunk tank,
Wendy (31:47.15)
So then after they get out of the dunk tank, he tells number eight that he wants her to pick who she thinks is the least trustworthy. Chanel has to pick. And she chooses Brianna, number two. And he said, know, like why? And she said, well, she made me feel down by picking me.
Lori (31:59.855)
Right, so Chanel has to pick now.
Lori (32:06.951)
Mm-hmm.
Wendy (32:15.698)
She, you I may not be physically strong, but you should trust me. You should, you should trust me. And I think deep down inside, you know that, but you still said my name. And I think she's a hundred percent right because as soon as Gia said, you know, she helped me, Brianna said, yeah, you know what? She helped me too. Like I think she, I think after she did it, she, she, she knew it and she immediately regretted it. But what she should have done,
Lori (32:26.055)
Mm-hmm.
Lori (32:36.827)
Right, right, so she knew it.
Lori (32:42.566)
Mm-hmm.
Wendy (32:45.462)
is she should have went up to Chanel immediately and apologized. But she's like, Chanel won't even look at me. And she didn't go to her, right? think, right. So he then says, number two, you have to go get in the cage. And then he says, who else feels like they should go in the cage? And Randall and Gia both step into the cage.
Lori (32:57.221)
Right, didn't do the extra mile to make it right.
Lori (33:13.85)
Mm-hmm.
Wendy (33:14.986)
And this, and I was honestly surprised that nobody else stepped in that cage. I'll be honest with you. I really was surprised. Yeah. They all ate it. They all ate it.
Lori (33:19.301)
Yeah, cause they all ate it.
Lori (33:26.055)
But I would imagine maybe the thing is because weren't those the three that were on the team that were supposed to clean up the mess hall, like wasn't the mess hall their gig? Right, because Gia went in. But no, chicken fry wasn't in there. It was Gia.
Wendy (33:39.744)
No, so Gia, it was G, yeah, no, actually now that it was Gia and Chanel.
Lori (33:47.589)
Right, but then Russell came in, so I can see, and he was the one who said, he's the one who took it, so that's why he went. Okay, yeah.
Wendy (33:56.086)
Yeah, no, Gia just did it because she's stand up and she's like, you know what, I ate it. I should take my punishment too. Right. And I mean, the punishment was they all threw dirty water on them in that cage. It was just, I mean, that's disgusting.
Lori (34:01.497)
Right, I'm doing it. Right, right.
Lori (34:10.705)
Well, that's gross. Yeah.
Yeah, that's kind of gross.
Wendy (34:18.254)
And while they're sitting in the cage, Randall says, like, I was just stupid. Like, it was just stupid what I did. And Brianna said, you know what? We're all idiots. And Gia said, we all really didn't care for a minute. Brianna said, the whole course is about control, and we lost it. So they were really sitting in there and self-reflecting as they're getting disgusting water thrown on them.
Lori (34:26.587)
Mm-hmm.
Lori (34:37.029)
Yep.
Lori (34:45.351)
thrown on them. Gross.
Wendy (34:49.538)
So that's how it ended.
Lori (34:51.793)
Yeah.
Wendy (34:54.402)
I didn't get a time either, they didn't give me a time at the end, so I don't know what time it was. Which is a little annoying. But we're halfway through.
Lori (34:57.337)
No.
Lori (35:01.201)
So, yeah, I watched another podcast with Andrew, and what's his wife's name, the gymnast? Sean, okay, I watched it with them.
Wendy (35:09.038)
Sean.
Lori (35:15.291)
they were telling, they were saying how like when they went to the mess hall to eat, because people could call, send questions into their podcast. So people sent in questions like, you know, was anybody hungry? Did you have enough to eat? Like how was the food? And they said the food wasn't awful, but it wasn't great either. And they said that there was only a certain amount of food though. So when you went to the mess hall for breakfast,
Wendy (35:26.113)
Okay.
Lori (35:44.369)
There was only, you know, 30 pancakes or something. So she said it made it so that everybody was very thoughtful of how much food they took. And their podcast, Couple Things, they've been on for 10 years, which I didn't know. Yeah. Yeah. And they, yeah. And they said,
Wendy (36:02.04)
Mm-hmm.
Stop it.
Sean and her husband have had their own podcast for 10 years.
Lori (36:12.347)
for 10 years, that's what they said. Yeah. But they said when they did the interviews with, know, when the DSs would take them in and ask them how they feel they're doing on the course, those were between 30 minutes to two hours.
Wendy (36:15.158)
Wow!
Wendy (36:30.87)
Wow.
Lori (36:31.311)
Yeah, I thought that was very good. And they said the best advice that they got from past season's participants, I guess they have some friends who have been on the past seasons, is just get to the next meal. That it wasn't about the challenges, it wasn't about day one, day two. That was the best advice that they got from them to just get to...
the next meal. And those black kind of necklaces that they all have on, those are their mics. Yeah, I didn't know that. I was always wondering what that was. And Andrew said he lost 17 pounds. And when it's time to leave, like if you hand in your armband, you really just have to leave. Like there's no behind the scenes saying goodbye. You actually leave and they take you right to the airport.
Wendy (37:07.266)
Yeah, I knew that. I knew that was your mics.
Lori (37:30.567)
Andrew said that tunnels were the most frightening. And he also said one of the most interesting facts was that nobody snored in the tent. And that I guess Ravi probably must snore because he said that Ravi brought earplugs for everyone.
Wendy (37:48.901)
that's so funny.
Lori (37:50.279)
Yeah. And that the shower at the camp was basically a hose attached to a shower head. So they said that was the best thing when they were done with the show was taking that first really nice shower. Yeah. Better than their first really nice meal was their a really nice shower. And when asked what they were most nervous about, they were most nervous about each of them leaving.
Wendy (38:03.02)
Real shower.
Lori (38:18.629)
Like she was nervous about when he would leave and he was nervous about when she would leave. And yeah. So I just thought that was kind of cool. I like them. think they're, and not only that, he just got his doctorate. I couldn't find out in what, but he's now a doctor. Not a medical doctor, but he has his doctorate in something. I couldn't find,
Wendy (38:24.718)
That makes sense.
Wendy (38:30.112)
No, no, that's awesome.
Wendy (38:38.922)
Wendy (38:43.318)
Right, he's got his PhD. Yeah, something.
Lori (38:47.655)
It didn't say like what but she was saying to him. Oh congratulations. Now you could call him doctor and Joe and I was like, yeah So a couple things
Wendy (38:56.854)
What is the name of the podcast?
Wendy (39:02.262)
I have to look that up. I'm very curious about this.
Lori (39:05.208)
Couple things, yeah. Unless I heard wrong, I mean, that's what I wrote down. That's what I heard them say.
Wendy (39:10.7)
Yeah, no, I'm gonna look it up because I want to hear what else they've been talking about for 10 years. I'm interested.
Lori (39:15.213)
Yeah. And when I looked past, when I looked back like through their posts, a lot of them were like relationship things and yeah, so they're, and they did all this stuff in regards to the children before they went. They went on like a two week vacation. They went to some, I forget what countries they went to. They went like international traveling for like two weeks before they left.
And then when they were gone, so they came home and then like the next day they flew out and then they had all this stuff, all this stuff planned for their kids, like going with their cousins and their grandparents and going here and doing this and doing that. So she said the kids barely, you know, they were on this whirlwind trip before they left. And then they did all this fun stuff while they were gone so that it was. It wasn't, you know, traumatic for the kids. They were just like, yeah, did you sound like.
Wendy (40:09.399)
That's awesome. Yeah, that's great.
Lori (40:12.293)
great parents and really nice people. Really nice people.
Wendy (40:13.933)
Yeah, they do.
That's awesome.
Lori (40:18.491)
So we'll see you for next time. What happens?
Wendy (40:20.824)
Yep, until next time, thank you for watching and listening. Please give us five star reviews and subscribe. Bye.
Lori (40:28.379)
